Who we are
Mi Basket is a free family app, non-profit and ad-free, for following Uruguayan basketball.
What data we collect
In the apps you install from the stores you don't need to create an account. We never ask for your name or your email address, so we don't know who you are. On the web you can sign in with your Google account if you want to find your things in any browser: we explain that further down.
When you mark a player or a team as a favorite, that choice is stored on your phone. To put together your Inbox, with whatever is new among the things you follow, the app sends that list to our server every time it asks whether anything has happened. That is what makes the Inbox yours and not everybody's.
The list travels with no name and no account behind it, because we don't have either. We use it to answer you, and it is kept for a while on the server side together with the response, so the same work isn't repeated on every request.
If you turn notifications on, we store it as well. Without that we wouldn't know who to notify about what.
The app also keeps count of which sections you use, so we can tell what people find useful. In the apps you install from the stores that count stays on your device and never reaches us. None of this is linked to a person: we have neither your name nor your email address.
How many people use it
Every so often your phone sends us a short note saying it's still there. It carries a number the app makes up on its own the first time you open it, the type of phone, the browser, whether you opened it as an installed app or from the web, and the version you are running.
That number isn't derived from anything of yours: it is not your phone number, your email address or an account.
And something we would rather say than hide: it is the same number we use for notifications. If you have them turned on, that note and the things you chose to follow sit on the same side of our server. We don't cross-reference them, but technically it could be done, and saying so seems more honest to us than promising it is impossible.
With that we count how many phones there are and how many kept using the app over the last 30 days.
That identifier does not live forever in the usage stats: if a phone goes 12 months without opening the app, we irreversibly stop keeping it alongside them. The count remains (so historical numbers stay honest), but without the identifier.
If you sign in to the web with your Google account
On web.mibasket.app you can sign in with your Google account. It is optional and it is only on the web: the apps you install from the stores are still used with no account at all.
When you sign in, Google tells us your email address and your name. We store those two things and, alongside them, what you follow and how you have the app set up: your favorite players, teams and clubs, the order you look at them in, the theme and the language. We store them for one purpose only: so that you find them exactly as you left them in any browser where you sign in with the same account, without having to build your favorites again on every computer.
With your account we also know which devices you use and which sections you open, which is the same thing we already counted before, now tied to you. It tells us who is coming in and what they find useful.
If you want all of that deleted, write to us at [email protected] and we will take it down: your email address, your name and whatever you had stored. The app keeps working for you without an account, with whatever you have on each device.
If you connect Mi Basket to ChatGPT or Claude
You can connect Mi Basket as a data source for ChatGPT or Claude by signing in with your Google or Apple account. It is optional. When you do, the assistant asks Mi Basket for what it needs to answer you: games, results, standings, statistics and, if you ask for it, the list of teams, clubs and players you follow. That is the only thing that goes to OpenAI or Anthropic: never your email address, your name, your password or any other account data. What they do with what they receive is governed by their own privacy policy.
The connector only reads: it cannot change what you follow or anything else in your account. You can disconnect it at any time from the assistant's settings, or ask us to block the access by writing to [email protected].
Notifications
If you turn on alerts for a game or a player, a technical device identifier is stored together with what you chose to follow, and that is the only thing that lets us know who to send what to. You can turn them off whenever you like: doing so deletes that information. If you uninstall the app, it is discarded as soon as the system tells us that device no longer exists.
Sports data
Results, fixtures, rosters and statistics are published openly by the Uruguayan Basketball Federation (FUBB) and are public in nature. Mi Basket is an independent app: it is not affiliated with or officially endorsed by any federation or club.
Error reports
If the app fails, a technical report is sent (the app version, which screen it happened on and the error trace) so that it can be fixed. It does not include your name or your email address. If you write to us from «Avisar que algo anda mal» (Report a problem), the text you write is sent as well, along with the app version, the screen and the browser. Reports are kept for 30 days.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or hand over data to anyone. To make the app work we rely on these services: Google and Apple deliver the notifications to your device, Google or Apple verify who you are when you sign in to the web or connect an assistant with your account, and Pushover and Resend get the error reports to us. If you connect Mi Basket to ChatGPT or Claude, OpenAI or Anthropic receive the answers to what you ask them, as explained above. Nothing else leaves here.
If you appear in the app
If you are a player, or their parent or guardian, and you would rather your photo or your data did not appear, write to us and we will take it down: [email protected]. There is no need to explain why.
